BLASIMON
Blasimon is a small village in the viticultural region ‘Entre Deux Mers’ and is within easy reach of the Gironde’s capital city Bordeaux (50 km) and Saint-Emilion (20 km).
Other picturesque communes nearby are Sauveterre de Guyenne, Castillon La Bataille and Rauzan.
Blasimon’s roots date back to 1332 when the village was built in the shape of a ‘Bastide’ (fortified town) on a hill overlooking the valley and the rivière La Gamage. Soon intensive viticulture and wine-making activities were developed on the slopes.
The central marketplace of the village is surrounded by Arcades (covered galleries in the shade) and there are some small shops, a café, a post office and a baker’s shop.
BLASIMON ABBEY
Blasimon Abbay was founded in 721 on the remains of an old pagan cult location and the actual buildings date from the 11th and 13th Century. Particularly the Roman porch with 6 arches and 14 pillars is a fine example of sculpture.
WATER-MILLS
Our own water mill was not the only one in the region. There were more such as La Borie (13th Century) and Moulin de l’Abbaye (11th Century).
LAC DE BLASIMON
This provincial domain has a 7 ha lake and is therefore offering endless swimming pleasure activities and even fishermen are attracted to this area. Hikers can explore prehistoric caves.
