Welcome to Sainte-Thérence at Henk and Marga's!

After seven years of successfully running a Chambres d'Hôtes and a camping site in Buxières les Mines (camping Le Boucher) it's time for another adventure.

Since October 18th, 2016 we live in this beautiful village, 12 km from Montluçon, region Bocage Bourbonnais Sud, in the department Allier, Auvergne.

Sainte-Thérence is a flowered village, un village fleuri, and has 200 inhabitants. Because it's a small village, the people are very involved and friendly. In and around the village are among , a church, a restaurant, and a castle ruin, which can be admired by walking the route of a lovely footpath.

Nearby are the Gorges du Haut-Cher, where you have a splendid view from the bridge. 

We have created three rooms (each for two persons) and two gîtes (holiday cottages).

The property of Vacances au Bon Accueil consists of our house our house that accommodates the three Chambres d'Hôtes and our renovated gîtes 'Thérence' and 'BO', a swimming pool and children's play equipment. Wifi is available.

From our property you have a nice view of the area which is excellent for walking.

Sainte-Thérence has wonderful hiking tracks, these are well indicated next to the church in the village.

There is a nice track to Château de l'Ours - a hiking track surrounded by flora and fauna - and there's a path along the

Gorges du Haut-Cher.

Our house is situated next to the restaurant 'Le Petit Bourbonnais' established, with a welcoming terrace.

Several canoe trips can be made in Ebreuil, through the Gorges de la Sioule. 

The Bourbonnais in the Allier is a region of hills, forests and rivers, not to mention the many castles, churches, pretty Maisons de Maître (Mansions) and Romanesque buildings. There are chic spas such as Néris-les-Bains, Bourbon l'Archambault and Vichy and cities like Montluçon and Moulins which are worth a visit. In Moulins e.g. you'll find the Centre National du Costume de Scène et de la Scénographie (famous theatre costumes) link. The Grand Café, a café-brasserie on the Place d'Allier, is one of the most beautiful in France - Registered in the Inventory of Historic Monuments, it retains its decoration from 1899.

On the borders of the Combrailles, in the Allier, lies Montluçon (12 km away from us). Begin at the top of the belvedere of the Château des Ducs de Bourbon with a view of the entire city. The old town area has many bistros and terraces, beautiful parks with fountains and pretty flowers. And of course you can visit the churches Notre-Dame and Saint-Pierre.

Every Saturday there is a market which offers many regional products.

12 km away from us lies Néris-les-Bains and its spa resort. The so-called Caesar hot spring produces 60,000 liters of water per hour with a temperature of 53 °C. This source was already extensively used by the Romans. There is plenty of opportunity for relaxation and walks. With 17 hectares of flower and tree parks, this resort offers a wide variety of landscapes.

Vichy has about 28,000 inhabitants and is a prosperous town. The history of Vichy dates back to the 1st century, when it was founded near hot springs. This city has quaint boutiques, an opera house, casino and beautiful parks along the Allier river.

It is also a famous spa resort.

In Huriel you might visit the Donjon de la Toque. The granite-built square tower is a jewel of military architecture from the early 12th century. The keep is 33 meters high, now used as a museum devoted to the local wine and the history of the village. There is a panoramic terrace at a height of 25 meters, which offers a magnificent view over the valley of the Cher.

Anglers can indulge at the Barrage de Prat in Sainte-Thérence or go fishing in the Gorges du Haut-Cher.

One and a half hour drive to the south you will find the big city of Clermont-Ferrand, which is located in the Parc National des Volcans - an impressive area with (no longer active) volcanoes. The highest volcano in the park is the Puy de Dôme, at the top you have a breathtaking view over a large area and the city of Clermont-Ferrand.

The village of Charroux is registered as one of the most beautiful villages of France, famous for its mustard and oil, and its

jam- and soap production. A visit to the Musée de Charroux, the Maison des Horloges or the Eglise Saint-Jean-Baptiste with its bell tower with truncated spire is highly recommended!
