Welcome at Camping Domaine du Castex in Aignan, in the heart of the Gers in the South West of France.
Le Domaine du Castex is located in the centre of the Gers department (Midi-Pyrénées), in an old village, Aignan, which is just 50 kms from Auch ( the capital of the Gers). Other interesting towns in the proximity are Pau (55kms), Tarbes (50kms), Bordeaux (180kms) and Toulouse (130kms).
Aignan is also known as the ‘Capital’ of the Armagnac area, being situated amidst green hills with vineyards, fields of sweetcorn and sunflowers and forests. Wine, Armagnac, Floc de Gascogne and duck are some of the delightful local products to be enjoyed. The wonderful views of the countryside are rich in variety and colour! There are numerous activities in the area of the Pyrenees including the well-known pilgrimage town of Lourdes (80kms), the fascinating museum of the Count d’Artagnon (the 4th Musketeer) in Lupiac and of course the beautiful historical rural routes heading to the holy shrine of St. James of Compostella in NW Spain. The country around is a paradise for walking, horse riding and mountain biking.
The local climate is Mediterranean /Atlantic and so for approximately 60-80 days, temperatures are above 25 °C through the summer months. Spring starts early and is the best season for walkers and hikers who can enjoy the early warmth and ripening wheat while still wondering at the snowy white summits of the Pyrenees. From the beginning of April to the end of June, the average temperature can vary from 16°C-25°C. In July and August the the weather is hot and very sunny.
Minimum temperatures fluctuate between 13°C and 15°C in the morning and 22°C to 32°C during the day! The end of Summer can also be very warm with temperatures from 21°C to 25°C. Even in October the temperature remains very mild. It’s an ideal time to go on holiday when the rest of the world is working!
